As Death Squad begins to partner with only select motorcycle, surf, skate and lifestyle shops we will be doing shop profiles to tell everyone a little bit about them and why we chose to place DS in their shops. The first being Hanger 94 in San Diego. Hanger 94 is a destination shop that is known for their vast selection of surf, skate and snowboards. The owner Milo, still surfs daily and also has a vert ramp in his backyard. Check out his interview below and when you’re in the SD area be sure to go say hi to Milo and support an independently owned retailer.
Tell the world a little about Hanger 94.. How long has Hanger 94 been in business? What made you want to open Hanger 94?
Hanger 94
Hanger 94 was started in the fall of 1998 as a skate shop in Rancho San Diego 1 mile from my home. I had just finished my contract with Ride snowboards working as the president (founder) of a small company called SMP. Which Ride Snowboards had purchased from me in October 1995. Ride was having financial problems so three years later they sold off SMP to an Australian named Eugene King. I was not very fond of Eugene, so prior to the sell, Ride bought me out of my contract and with nothing to do, no Job I decided to get back into the retail game, and wanted to do something that was REAL, so I opened Hanger 94.
We at Death Squad really appreciate the chance to be in such a great shop! That wasn’t much of a question, but wanted to make sure we let you know. What is a deciding factor for you to bring in Death Squad into Hanger 94?
Hanger 94
In all of my years of retailing I had never come across a HARD ASS, Like Danny G.
When I was opening my store and buying product for the store I was having problems getting some of the brands, and at the time Danny was working for Adio Shoes,
Danny was selling other accounts in the area and did not want to open me.
We exchanged words over the phone and Danny had made the decision that he would not sell me. That just made me MAD, What Danny wasn’t aware of was that his boss was an old friend of mine, so I reached out to Jeff Moore to go around Danny
To get the Adio Brand, Jeff told me that he would speak to Danny about selling us but It was Danny decision. So Danny came to the store we went outside behind the shop Danny Kicked My ASS for calling his boss, two black eyes later we became an Adio Dealer.
So when Danny came in to sell me death squad The last thing I needed was another Ass kicking or worse, so of course I brought it in. When Danny brought in the POP and it was a Coffin (with My name on it) I knew that I’d better pay my bills on time as well.
With all kidding aside, Out of all of the Industry Reps I consider Danny as family,
I love him as a Brother and I know that he will be a true friend thru thick and thin.
We need more people like Danny in our Industry.
What’s been the best selling Death Squad item at Hanger 94 so far?

What do you think separates your shop with others that are out there? Hanger 94 is really well respected throughout the action sports community, as well as in retail. I’m sure that has a lot to do with your business model and the brands you carry.
Hanger 94
What separates Hanger 94 From other shops ? We Keep it REAL,
Hanger 94 was not established to make tons of money, It was established because I was out of work and I needed to feed my family, I knew one thing, and that is the SURF SKATE and SNOWBOARD Industry, My whole life from the Age of 16 I have worked in surf shops, That’s all I know, So when I walk into Hanger 94 I have to be proud of what we do. So I make a conscious effort to support other Real Brands.
Every brand in my store was started with the same passion and roots that have created such an amazing industry. When the outside influence of GREED sets in it Fucks up the purity of the brand. And the purity of the Industry.
So when brands like Death Squad come to me and ask for my support, I do my homework to find out if they are in it for the right reason, I spoke with Chris (founder of death squad) to find out hi story, Chris impressed me with his passion and love for Surfing and Skateboarding and Bikes, Chris grew up above a local surf shop In pacific beach. Then he worked in the shop when he was a grom, he surfs, he is a tattoo artist, he designs and sells parts for Bikes, He is a Hardcore Biker, He is a loving father (he brought his son into the shop with him) he is REAL.
When I asked Chris about Death Squad one thing stuck out more than anything,
Chris expressed to me that he is doing this because he loves it, and it is not for the money,
I Respect Chris and Danny and I am proud to support them and proud to have The Death Squad Brand in my store
